The Department of Civil Engineering offers programs of coursework and research leading to the degrees of Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering.
 
The objective of the M. Sc. and M. Eng. programs is to provide students with education beyond a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering to prepare them as specialized practicing engineers in the core civil engineering areas of environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, construction management and water-resources engineering. The Master’s-level programs involve a significant course component. The M. Eng. program is predominantly course-based and caters primarily to practicing engineers. The M.Sc. program involves a research project and associated thesis in which students must demonstrate self-study capabilities and general mastery of a specialized field of civil engineering.
